FAQs

I hear you have a Concierge - what can they help me with? (Hotels, airport transfers, etc.?)

The venue offers a concierge service to make travel planning and booking as easy as possible and to help keep everything (and everyone) organized.

The concierge service can help with:

  • Booking hotels / villas / agriturismi (farm stays)

  • Private transfers from Rome and Florence airports

  • Transfers from Assisi train station or taxis / vans to other local destinations

  • Local activities / information - from train timetables to wine tasting, cooking classes and tours.

You can tell them a bit about your travel plans and what you are looking for and they’ll take it from there.

If you’ve already booked accommodations on your own, please still reach out and let them know where you’re staying so they can help coordinate transportation during the wedding weekend.

You can contact the concierge directly at: 📧 concierge@castellopetrata.com. Please include “Hannah & Colin Wedding – Accommodation / Transfers / Activities” in the subject line.

How do I get to Assisi?

First, check out the ‘Getting There & Local Transportation’ page. Lots of helpful details there on renting a car, taking a train, or booking an airport transfer!

If you have questions, feel free to write the Concierge to determine and organize the right option for you. Email: concierge@castellopetrata.com. Please include “Hannah & Colin Wedding – Accommodation / Transfers / Activities” in the subject line.

Note: If you are considering renting a car, be sure to acquire an international driver’s license if you are considering this option (this can be completed in one day via AAA, is about $20, and does not require any kind of test).

What about local transportation?

Taxis are the best way to get around during the wedding weekend. They’re easy to arrange, come in all sizes (often small passenger vans that can fit 8–10 people), and are ideal for traveling between Assisi and the venue. For reference, Castello di Petrata is about a 15-minute drive from Assisi.

During the wedding events: transportation throughout the three days — including rides to and from the pizza party, wedding reception, and pool party — will be coordinated by the wedding planning team. Final logistics will be confirmed about one month before the wedding, once we know where guests are staying and the final event schedules are set.

We’ve also made sure that rides will be available throughout the events, so if you need to head back early for any reason, fear not — you’ll have a ride back to wherever you’re staying.

Outside of the scheduled transfers, taxis can be:

  • Ordered directly through your hotel, or

  • Arranged in advance by emailing the concierge, who can help set things up during your stay

Because this is a popular area in the summer, it’s generally best to book taxis in advance whenever possible — and the concierge is happy to help with that. Most taxis accept credit cards but best to have some Euros on hand just in case.

There are no Ubers or Lyfts!

Are children allowed?

While we love our littlest of friends, the Wedding Day and Pool Party will be adult-only events as we suspect (and are hoping!) they may be more raucous occasions. Children are welcome to join for the welcome Pizza Party on Tuesday evening though, and we will help coordinate any childcare needs for the adult-only events! Please reach out directly if you would like to explore that option - there IS childcare available for every family that would like it.

Is there babysitting/child care available?

Yes! If you’re bringing your little one and would like child care during the adult-only events, babysitting can be arranged through the wedding planners (separate from the concierge service). Please let us know now if you’re interested, so we can plan accordingly. There will be plenty of experienced babysitters available, for as long (or as short) as you’d like, and they can come directly to your hotel or accommodation. We’ll coordinate details closer to the wedding day once we know how many families are seeking childcare during their stay.

What will the weather be like?

Likely HOT (80s -90s). July in Umbria is typically warm, sunny, and very summery. Expect daytime heat, especially in the afternoon, with slightly cooler evenings once the sun goes down. We recommend light fabrics, breathable layers, and sun protection — Italian summer heat is no joke (but it is worth it).

There is a pool at the venue that all wedding guests are welcome to come use at any point to cool down during the three-day wedding-bonanza.

What’s the dress code?

Wet Hot Italian Summer 🇮🇹 💃🏻 ❤️‍🔥 – July in Italy is likely to be toasty, so feel free to wear something light and fun that responds well to the heat. Ties optional. Bold encouraged.

One important note: Many of the wedding events will take place on cobblestone or a large grassy field, so we recommend shoes you can comfortably walk and stand in. Wedges, block heels, flats, or dressy sandals are all great options — stilettos, maybe not so much.

Do I need a passport and/or visa?

You will need a passport. Many countries (including Italy) require that passports be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates, so please double-check expiration dates now to avoid any last-minute surprises at the airport.

As of right now, visas are not required for Americans traveling to Italy, though the laws are changing later this year. We’ll keep an eye on things and let you know if things shift!

What about currency and tipping in Italy?

Italy uses the euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted, especially at hotels, restaurants, and larger shops, but it’s a good idea to have some cash on hand for smaller cafés, taxis, tips, or quick purchases.

Tipping in Italy is not expected in the same way as in the U.S. Service is usually included, and rounding up — for example, leaving €1–2 on a coffee or rounding a taxi fare up to the nearest euro — is appreciated but not required.

Registry

Many of you are traveling from afar to celebrate with us, so your presence is the ultimate gift!

That said — if you really feel compelled to get something, we would absolutely love a postcard from your travels, a handwritten note, or a small piece of art for our new home — something that will remind us of the people we love.

Will I eat?

Duh, it’s Italy. Prepare to be well fed on the night before the wedding, the wedding day, and via a barbecue pool party the day after. We’ve got you covered.
